Pre-Season High School Conditioning Camp is less than two weeks away sign up now before its to late...
High school coaches like nothing more than seeing their players come into camp in shape. Well, at Peak Performance co-owned by Eric Short and Kevin Lizotte, that's the exact goal during the annual Fall Conditioning Camp. "We tell them that this isn't a punishment, this camp is designed to get them back into shape," said Short, who is the Lunenburg/Ayer ice hockey head coach. "We're looking for motivated kids that are looking to better themselves before the high school season." The conditioning camp is broken into two sessions. Session1 will run from Nov. 14-18, and Session 2 will be held Nov. 21-26 -- both at the Wallace Civic Center at Fitchburg State University. The cost is $180 for one session or $325 for both. The camp offers intense on- and off-ice work with the goal of getting players in shape before the official start of the winter high school season on Nov. 28. "For the kids that have time before the season to do camps, it gives them a huge advantage coming into the season," Short said. "They can work on getting in shape, getting their skating legs back and their hands back. They'll be ready to go on the first day of practice." This season, Peak Performance also added to its already outstanding coaching staff with the additions of Dean Fuller (Fitchburg State University), Jim Conry (St. Bernard's), Chris Kyne (Leominster), Marc Berube (Gardner girls' co-op team) and Steve Lowney (Fitchburg). Players can also expect to see the familiar faces of coaches Eric and Trevor Short, Lizotte and Cory Beaulac. "This year we've got some new faces along with our experienced staff," Eric Short said. "We wanted to add more variety to our coaching staff to try and draw on the experience of our coaches and add some new drills." The two hours of off-ice work per session should also greatly benefit campers throughout the rigorous season. "It's designed to help players get into shape, but it also teaches them different drills and off-ice training that they can do on their own during the season," Eric Short said. The camp began in 2005, and Eric Short said it has been well received by players from across North Central Mass. "Every kid that's been a part of this before has felt like they got a lot out of this camp," Eric Short said.

Peak Performance Hockey, co-owned by Kevin Lizotte, former head coach at St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School, and Eric Short, the head coach at Lunenburg/Ayer, was formed in 2002 with the overall goal of developing the skills of area high school players to help prepare them for the rigors of high school, prep school, juniors and college hockey.

After three extremely successful years of improving skills and guiding these high school players, Peak Performance expanded its role to include players as young as learn to skate age through the collegiate level.

“As a high school coach, if we don’t develop strong youth hockey players we’re not going to have successful high school teams in Central Mass. Without those skills, it’s not going to happen,” Short said. “Hockey, in general, we want to keep the numbers up. If we don’t get kids involved and enjoy hockey at a young age, numbers aren’t going to be there when it comes around to high school and we’re going to see programs folding.”

In the fall of 2004, Peak Performance combined with legendary Fitchburg State University ice hockey coach Dean Fuller and the Dean Fuller Falcon Hockey School under the name Peak Performance Hockey.

“Our close relations with Dean Fuller and his years of experience in hockey and summer camps working with kids has been instrumental for us to create camps and clinics that are successful,” Short said.

Peak Performance has continued to build upon the Falcon Hockey School’s 20 years of experience, while adding expertise from the region’s top high school, prep school, juniors and college coaches.

“All coaches involved are local coaches that have a valued interest in the community,” Short said. “Our coaches want to develop local talent. We want to grow the game of hockey at all levels.”

Peak Performance Hockey has a proven track record of making players better by focusing on skill development, skating technique, conditioning and game situations.

Currently, Peak Performance covers the high school spring league, summer clinics from mites through high school, learn to skate, learn to hockey, high school fall conditioning camp, player ratings for Twin City Youth Hockey and once-a-week clinics during the season for youth hockey organizations to support their skill development.

     WHY CHOOSE PEAK?

"We have to keep teaching skating and skills. Fundamentals are the key to success, and that’s what Peak Performance is all about.”
-- Dean Fuller, Fitchburg State Ice Hockey Coach
